Note: The above teams play their home games at the New Jersey Meadowlands Sports Complex (Continental Airlines Arena and Giants Stadium), located approximately 20+ minutes north of the NJIT campus. Other nearby major league professional teams accessible by public transportation include the New York Mets (MLB) at Shea Stadium; New York Yankees (MLB) at Yankee Stadium; and the New York Rangers (NHL), New York Knicks (NBA), and New York Liberty (WNBA) at Madison Square Garden.  New Jersey also has six minor league baseball teams: Trenton Thunder (Trenton), New Jersey Cardinals (Augusta), Somerset Patriots (Bridgewater), Atlantic Surf (Atlantic City), New Jersey Jackals (Upper Montclair), and the Newark Bears (Newark), located just minutes from the NJIT campus. The United States Equestrian Team (USET) is based in Gladstone, New Jersey. 

The New Jersey Devils are expected to move to a new arena in downtown Newark in 2007-2008. The New Jersey Nets are expected to move to Brooklyn, New York around 2010.

Youth soccer programs in New Jersey are regulated by the New Jersey Youth Soccer Association.
